Project 365

Week 6 | 2020

The theme for this week was cake. There was so much cake. Lida turned 10, and we ended up making her two cakes for her actual birthday (long story). I made four different batches of buttercream frosting throughout the week. Then, instead of having a party, she just wanted to have a sleepover with a friend and make Rosanna Pansino’s Galaxy Mirror Cake. It was kind of insane. The mirror cake turned out much better than I was expecting- we learned a few lessons, and I think next time we try it we will be even more successful. It was even kind of delicious. That deserves it’s own blog post and photos.

Lida also made a quilt with help from grandma, which was awesome. She gave it away to a staff member at her school that she is very attached to. We did a lot of puzzles and ate a lot of kolaches. Mom and dad took advantage of grandma’s visit for once, and we went out to dinner alone at Sebastian’s Table.

I have unfortunately been feeling pretty unwell, as a result of lingering symptoms of B12 deficiency. It is a struggle to balance vitamins and minerals, especially the need for extra potassium the B12 injections create. I have resumed exercise, which is great, but exertion exacerbates my neurological symptoms. I have also been diagnosed with SIBO, and am waiting on the arrival of antibiotics to treat that. My creativity and concentration and brain performance is just kind of sucky at this point, but I know that healing is not linear, and it will get better.

I am TOTALLY missing one of my three children from photos this week, so now I have a new plan for the week ahead. Hi Milena! I’ve got you this week, I promise. As long as you work with me. :)

Week 5 | 2020

Week five of 2020, and I have already given up on politics and the country in general, sworn off the news, and then gone back to obsessively watching the news. Apparently MORE than half of the country doesn’t care about politics at all, not even enough to VOTE, and those people are probably (definitely) less anxious and enraged than I am. I still can’t convince myself to join them.

I did a much better job of taking photos in available light. We are doing a lot of puzzling here, as we slog through the rest of this Nebraska winter. I probably should be doing more exercise than I am, but the puzzle and some tea or a good book and puppy snuggling keeps calling me.

Goal for this week- include my son in more photos. And still try for real life and available light. Oh! And exercise.
